A 4.5 metre high crane has collpased at an outdoor construction site at a milling plant in Canada.

Trevor Pizzey, department of operations for Can-Oat Milling confirmed a crane, which was in the process of lifting down a large grain-receiving scale off of the roof of the elevator, collapsed as a result of strong winds.

Fortunately no-one was injured in the accident, although the boom and crane were damaged as they crashed to the ground. Fortunately the main frame and the cab were also undamaged.

Pizzey went on to say "there was no one that was in the danger zone of the lift at all. We certainly haven't had any crane collapses or anything on our site of this nature. It's contracted work and it's professionals that are trained to do that. We contract work of that nature because it manages risk for the organization and for all of our employees. The contractor will be bringing in a replacement crane to put the new piece of equipment in place."
